Ending the Stigma Around Mental Health for Young People

Removing the stigma can promote open and honest conversations about mental health, leading to better understanding, awareness, and access to resources & a willingness to seek help when need.

  • Education: Providing accurate information about mental health and disorders can help people understand that they are medical conditions and not something to be ashamed of.

  • Language: Using appropriate language when referring to people with mental health conditions can help reduce stigma. This includes avoiding derogatory terms and not using mental health conditions as adjectives.

  • Awareness: Raising awareness about mental health and the impact of stigma can help change attitudes and perceptions.

  • Empathy: Cultivating empathy towards people with mental health conditions can help reduce stigma by promoting understanding and acceptance.

  • Advocacy: Advocating for policies that support mental health and reduce stigma can help make positive change at a systemic level.
